Peyronie’s Disease

Penile Curvature, Pain & Erectile Function

Peyronie’s disease involves fibrous scar tissue (plaque) forming within the penis, leading to curvature, pain, and possible erectile dysfunction.

Common causes include microtrauma, reduced tissue elasticity, vascular changes, and genetic predisposition.

Symptoms may include:

  • Penile curvature during erection
  • Pain (especially early stage)
  • Palpable plaque or lump
  • Shortening or narrowing
  • Erectile dysfunction

Phases:

  • Acute Phase – pain and changing curvature
  • Chronic Phase – stable curvature, reduced pain

Assessment includes:

  • Detailed history
  • Functional impact assessment
  • Pelvic floor evaluation
  • Ultrasound imaging (if indicated)

Treatment may include:

  • Focused shockwave therapy
  • Pelvic floor physiotherapy (downtraining or coordination work)
  • Load and lifestyle modification
  • Liaison with GP or urologist

If you notice curvature, pain, or changes in erectile function, early assessment is recommended.
